Following
the
successful
participation
at the
International
Boston
Seafood
Show
during
2007,
2008 &
2009,
the
Omani
Centre
for
Investment
Promotion
and
Export
Development
(OCIPED)
in
coordination
with the
Directorate
General
of
Fisheries
Resources,
Ministry
of
Fisheries
is
participating
in the
International
Boston
Seafood
Show
from
14th to
16th
March
2010 at
Boston,
USA. 4
Omani
fish
exporting
companies
are
participating
under
“OMAN
PAVILION”.
600 Sq.
ft
(fully
built
up)
exhibition
space
has been
booked.
The
International
Boston
Seafood
show is
one of
the
largest
seafood
exhibitions
in North
America
which is
attended
by a
large
number
of
importers
from
North
America
as well
as
Europe.
88% of
the
visitors
to the
exhibition
have
purchasing
authority,
76% of
visitors
plan to
make
purchases
as a
result
of
attending
the
show.
Mr.
Faris
Nasser
Al
Farsi,
Acting
Director
General
of
Export
Development
of
OCIPED
informed
that
there is
a need
to take
advantage
of the
Oman –
US FTA
wherein
Omani
fish can
enter US
market
without
any
import
duty
thereby
making
Omani
fish
highly
competitive
in the
US
market.
Mr.
Faris
further
added
that the
Products
Purchased
by
Visitors
to the
Boston
Seafood
exhibition
are 60%
Frozen
Seafood,
45%
Fresh
Seafood,
21%
Aquaculture/Farm
Raised,
14%
Canned
Seafood.
Hence
Omani
fish
exporters
will
have the
opportunity
to meet
with
importers
of
different
product
segment
in USA.
Mr. Nasr
Fayiz
Sbeit Al
Farsi of
Ministry
of
Fisheries
informed
that
fresh
and
frozen
Seafood,
frozen
and
fresh
shrimps,
and
pre-cooked
frozen
tuna
Loins
will be
exhibited
at the
Boston
Seafood
show.
OCIPED
has been
organizing
fish
exporter’s
participation
to the
exporter’s
seafood
exhibitions
for the
past 3
years
and have
been
forwarding
the
addresses
of the
US
importers
to fish
exporters.
As a
result
of all
this,
fish
valued
more
than US$
200,000
has been
exported
by Al
Marsa
and Oman
fisheries
to the
USA
during
2009.
Mr.
Faris
hopes
that the
participation
in the
Boston
Seafood
Show
during
March
2010
will
help in
increasing
fish
exports
to the
USA by
taking
advantage
of the
Free
Trade
Agreement
between
the
Sultanate
of Oman
and
United
States
of
America.
