OCIPED Targets Libyan market
The officials of The Omani Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development (OCIPED) are visiting Republic of Libyan Arab Jamahiriya from 3rd to 8th October 2009 to meet with leading businessmen in Libya. Mr. Faris Al Farsi, Acting Director General of Export Development of OCIPED who is visiting Libya, informed that this initiative has been taken after successful completion of OCIPED’s market study in Libya for 32 Omani products and have found enough scope to further increase non-oil Omani origin exports from the present level of RO. 3.1 million achieved during the year 2008 accounting for only 0.06% of total Libyan imports.
Mr. Faris Al Farsi further informed that a business interaction meeting has been arranged in Tripoli on 4th October 2009 and in Benghazi on 6th October 2009 to facilitate interaction with leading businessmen in Libya to highlight the variety and quality of Non-oil Omani origin products. A series of one-to-one meetings has been planned with several leading businessmen in Tripoli and Benghazi in association with the Omani Embassy, Tripoli Chamber of Commerce and Benghazi Chamber of Commerce in Libya.
Mr. Faris Al Farsi further informed that OCIEPD has planned to organize a “Seminar on Exporting to Libya” in association with Bank Muscat to be held on Tuesday, the 27th October 2009 at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 8:00 A.M to 11:00 A.M to present the findings of the market study among the Omani exporters, bankers and other service organizations. During the ensuing visit to Libya, OCIPED intends to invite some of the leading Libyan businessmen to visit the Sultanate of Oman during the seminar so that some interaction could happen between Omani and Libyan businessmen.
As the further step, OCIPED intends to organize a “Buyer-Seller Meet” among Omani and Libyan businessmen in Tripoli Libya during the 2nd week of December 2009 so that some high value business could be concluded.
Mr. Faris Al Farsi hoped that the Libya market study will realize OCIPED’s goal of increasing Non-Oil Omani origin exports to Libya as has been achieved through ociped’s market studies in Yemen, Syria, Kenya, Tanzania, Iran and Sudan. Mr.Faris expressed the confidence that this exercise will help to offset the impact of global financial crisis and arrest the marginal drop in Non-oil Omani exports during the first quarter of 2009.
